Hyatt Video – “Imagine the Possibilities: Innovative Hiring Through Assistive Technology.”

There is a new video out that features assistive technology and the workplace supports for employing people with disabilities at the Hyatt Hotels in Florida. It is a great training tool and includes a variety of VR consumers with assistive technology supports that have been provided by or with support of the Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and the Florida Division of Blind Services. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month

US. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao today announced that “America’s People, America’s Talent… America’s Strength!” will be the official 2008 theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which is observed in October nationwide. The 2008 theme captures the accomplishments highlighted in the 2007 progress report on President Bush’s New Freedom Initiative for people with disabilities. Read the News Release

Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy Neil Romano Speaks at START-UP/USA Meeting

Assistant Secretary Neil Romano recently addressed the START-UP/USA meeting participants in Washington, D.C. The meeting brought together the projects funded by the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) from Alaska, Florida, and New York. These projects are providing support to entrepreneurs with disabilities while demonstrating innovative practices that will facilitate self-employment outcomes. Disability Mentoring Day™

Save The Date: WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 15, 2008

Disability Mentoring Day™ is a large-scale, broad-based effort designed to promote career development for students and other job seekers with disabilities (mentees) through hands-on career exploration, job shadowing, and internship or employment opportunities, and matching of mentee/mentor relationships. Disability Mentoring Day: Career Development for the 21st Century, will be commemorated on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 as the official kick-off for a year-round effort.
