Public transportation advocates to meet today

A group of Chittenden County residents interested in supporting a broader and better funded public transit system in the county will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at 1 Main St., Burlington in the train station.

The group seeks to reduce dependence on fossil fuel based transportation and provide better mobility for area residents.

Planner Beth Humstone will present the possibilities of expanding transit in the region and what other communities have done. Chris Cole, general manager of Chittenden County Transportation Authority, will give details on the bus system’s funding source and how this limits some of the decisions CCTA is able to make.
All are encouraged to attend, and anyone interested who cannot attend the meeting is asked to e-mail organizer Mary Sullivan at marysull@yahoo.com for future updates.

Attendees are encouraged to take the bus. The following routes have stops near Union Station: Airport/UMall, College Street, Pine Street, Shelburne and City Loop. The meeting will end by 7 p.m. for attendees to catch the 7:25 p.m. departures from Cherry Street. For route and schedule information click here.
