Learn to Earn

With increasing globalization and an ever changing economy, it is imperative to equip youth with the necessary tools to succeed. This includes raising aspirations through career awareness in middle and high schools. As national and state job markets face ongoing transformation, career exploration must be an integral part of the classroom. Twenty-first century careers require knowledge of science, technology, engineering and math disciplines.  In addition, people need to be problem solvers, team players and collaborators.

Learn to Earn offers a a way for 7th – 10th grade students to learn about emerging fields of work from industry professionals.  Part of the discussion is what it takes to enter these occupations, thus encouraging students to align their coursework to these opportunities.

The main component of the program is dynamic and interactive in-school presentations by professionals from the local business community in fields such as healthcare, sales, community and social services, high-tech and information technology, manufacturing and engineering occupations.

Learn to Earn Goals

1. To encourage teens to consider careers in emerging and growing occupations.
2. To highlight how 21st century skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, team work and creativity,  are used daily “on the job.”
3. To show teens how their current coursework choices relate to their future career goals.
