VPT to host ‘Public Square’ on disability awareness
Vermont Public Television’s “Public Square” special for today looks at what life is like for people with disabilities.
Airing at 8 p.m., the show will feature highlights of a documentary titled “Speak Out for Understanding” that was produced recently by students at Harwood Union High School in S. Duxbury to show that people with disabilities are everywhere in Vermont’s communities.
Harwood Union students appear in the documentary, and students, parents and staff from the school will be in the VPT studio to talk about the film, about issues facing those with disabilities and about effective community support. Although the documentary features young people, the program will look at issues affecting people of all ages and types of disabilities.
Viewers will be invited to participate with questions and comments at 1-866-424-LIVE during the program.
Host Kristin Carlson’s panelists will be Trevor Cook of Warren, Sydney Dwinell of Warren, Josh Fisher of Waterbury, Grace Kirpan of Moretown, Ellissa Martin of Waterbury, Molly Rand of Waterbury, Tucker Sargent of Warren, Emma Wade of Waitsfield and Abby Zarotney of Waitsfield. Parents on the panel will be Nancy Skilton of Waitsfield and Patty Kirpan of Moretown.
